Happy birthday to Myles and congratulations to you and your wife on making it through the first year! I wish I could say that it gets easier but that’s not true. I’ve found that it rather gets fuller and richer, and that you discover depths of your heart and soul that you didn’t even know existed. In the meanwhile, enjoy the party and all the sweet moments that you’ll no doubt be experiencing this week!

My firstborn - my son Nate, turns 17 next week and reading this brought me right back to his first birthday bash. I still spoil him - ignore the naysayers. There’s no such thing as loving your boy too much.

And hiding in the bathroom is still a tactic of mine 😉

Happy birthday to sweet Myles!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MYLES🥳

Mylestone 8 is my favorite. Love how he responds and interprets hugs and kisses so precious☺️

My earliest birthday memory are my class parties in elementary school. I had the same cake like 2 years in a row because I was obsessed with the Disney Princesses. It had Ariel, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Belle’s figurines on it with matching plates and cups.

I have no idea how you should celebrate however whatever you come up with I’m sure it will be wonderful. Maybe write about what you’ve learned in your first year of parenting?

Aww Happy Birthday, Myles! I love all of this. We recently just celebrated my son’s third birthday, time goes by so fast😭 but every year at least one person gives my husband and/or I a card to acknowledge us, the parents, as well. This year, my little sister and her partner wrote a letter that brought me to tears. In part, they wrote: “Bringing him into this world and nurturing him with such love has been so remarkable.” I think it is so important to acknowledge the parents as well because it’s a milestone from them too! So Happy First Year of fatherhood dad, you made it!!

Also, our son also transitioned into a floor bed around 1. Felt so bittersweet no longer having him sleep with us and getting our bed back, but that floor bed has encouraged so much of his independence and it’s a sight to witness!

Mariah, thank you for seeing us. Sometimes parenting feels especially difficult since life feels like it’s only about the child. Yes, we should be celebrated too.

My wife doubted me about the floor bed and now she’s really happy we got it. It’s really amazing to see him learn how to maneuver in and around it.

I appreciate you too, Marc. I really appreciate that you're able to parent so well when, as you say, you didn't get that when growing up. That's a huge achievement.

🥹 Happiest Birthday Myles!!

And happy birth day to you and mom!! It’s 100% a birth day for you too. I mean I can’t think of anything more emerging than that moment when it all changes.

And congrats on one year. Whatever you do, I hope you get to reflect on all the love and resonance you’ve given in this space.
