When food for children needs to be cut to give billionaires more money then most has already been pillaged and the US is one financial crisis from collapse or revolution.

Perfectly said, Munir.

They way this country is being run is appalling. The greed is unending, and because they have so much they think nobody needs support. My heart is breaking for those who rely on these support systems and they are about to be ripped away from them. Hopefully the tides will turn soon, but I fear for what will happen in the meantime.

It's not just Medicaid and SNAP benefits...it's the gutting of scientific and medical research, the rollback on food and water regulations, the censorship of legacy media, the suppression of free speech on campuses, the decimation of FEMA assistance, the loss of herd immunity because of the gutting of vaccine mandates, the deportation of hard-working immigrants based solely on the color of their skin, the attacks of public education funding, the persecution of the trans community, the weaponization of the FBI and DOJ, the continual fall of the US dollar...on and on and on.

I see no indication that "the tides will turn soon".

The massive changes needed would require a sustained movement by US citizens, and there is no indication this will happen.

Agreed. I fear for the future of this country and it's citizens.

On and on is right. I'm struggling on what it means to have hope.

Thanks for this important post, Marc. I'm so sorry that this is happening in your country, which is so rich. No one should ever go hungry.

Yes, yes, and yes. I nearly cried at this. The sacrifices of a mother, the gratitude of a son, and the agonizing decline of what I was once proud of. BUT, parents like you, raising kids to understand, will save us. It will.

amen amen amen. i really pray to see some changes within our government and our country at large, but i know that it is unlikely. what I do know is that the wheels will continue turning and people will be somewhat ok if we continue to be there for one another and share what we do have. I’m a first gen college student to non immigrant parents (just generational poverty), and i don’t think I would’ve made it without SNAP. it’s very interesting to see my peers grow up with similar backgrounds, whom benefited from SNAP and other government funded programs to then not support them anymore once they’ve reached “financial stability”. i can’t wrap my head around it.

I appreciate for sharing that Eve. Although I haven’t seen people who benefited from these programs are now against it, it makes me sad hearing that. It’s giving “good for me, but not for theee’ energy. Thank you for being here ❤️

I grew up on food stamps, too, and can relate to so much of this. My mother had five little mouths to feed plus my father. Most nights she cooked meals from scratch. Our favorites were her beef vegetable soup, lasagna, beef stew, and fried pork chops with all the delicious Southern sides (collards, mac and cheese, rice and gravy, stewed tomatoes). I'm getting hungry just thinking about her cooking. I cannot imagine the stress and worry so many "invisible" Americans are feeling right now. I texted my aunt and cousins to check in on them and see how my husband and I can help. We are so fortunate now, so fortunate to not have to worry about when or where or how we were going to get our next meal. Thank you, Marc, for shining a light on this very real and very important topic. I'll be doubling our meals for the next several weeks to help those in need. God bless you and your family!

I love how you take these difficult topics and break them down with so much love for your son. It's hard to talk about hard things with kids.

No, billionaires are NOT edible.

Whatever were you thinking?

Most of them seem to have been exposed to mad cow disease and the others are pumping all sorts of weird stuff into their systems so they can live forever.

(Another good reminder why we should be teaching the Greek & Roman myths in grade school. Attempts to gain eternal life never end well.)

Do not expose that adorable baby to tainted meat.
