My father and grandfather were not in favor of guns. My grandfather thought you weren't much of a man if you needed one and my father thought anyone with a hair trigger temper should give themselves cooling off space.
Does it occur to your neighbors they must be terrified of each other since the real threat in their lives is each other?
Marc, this is so real. I also have a visceral reaction to guns. I live in MA where they exist but they're not as prevalent. I can't imagine having one in every room. They should be locked away so that no one shoots it accidentally. Or at least stored separate from the bullets. I hate guns, my tender heart can't accept them. My heart breaks every time I hear about someone getting shot, especially accidentally or wrongfully. Thank you for writing so thoughtfully about this difficult subject.
I feel the same. This was so hard to write because of some of the feelings that come up around protection and family. Maya, my wife, talk a lot about needing an emergency plan over having a weapon in the house. I’m inclined to agree with her. But the thought still comes up in my mind.
I get that, especially in the current political climate. Stick to your values. I strongly believe they will serve you. Having an emergency plan is a great idea.

I visited my sister's friend in CA once--he pulled a gun from his couch cushion in a sectional where we were all sitting. I felt sick, found an excuse to leave, and never went back. Some things should not be normal. I appreciate that you have many additional layers to consider. Rooting for you, always.
What a terrifying reality, Marc. It's hard to fathom, since guns are more rare here in Canada.
