This took my breath away. The sound of nature mingled with the sound of your voice and your love for Myles. Goosebumps. So beautiful. You can't control the world but you can make sure your baby knows they are loved, and he is loved.
Soooooo good. His cooing, the sounds of nature and I think the speed of which you are talking added this emotional dramatic element to this accompanied by the dialogue written out.
It was like I was a kid listening to my books on tape with the book in hand while listening to the person read it aloud.
The nostalgia, tempo, inter-generational conversation and healing that is unfolding is palpable.
This was incredibly sweet and brought tears to my eyes. The sounds of nature, Myles' babbles and your poetry. What a trifecta. Thank you for sharing your gift.
I love you, and there's nothing you can do about it. 🥹 I can imagine him listening to this when he's sorting out life in his teen years (and beyond). It will mean the world.
Oh, Marc, thank you, thank you, thank you for this gift of your special time and conversation with Myles in the beautiful backyard, with his sweet babbling voice and your heart-rending ("Play was silent. Perhaps this is the reason why I still walk on my toes. I don’t want to be an inconvenience, I guess, still"), heartfelt words to him. I will play this over and over again when ever I need a dose of love and hope. Look forward to more Musings in the Backyard.
Thank you Marc. This is the first thing I listened to this morning, and what a beautiful way to start my day, to hear your words, your son's voice, you have shared the love and I'm grateful.
His little laugh in the beginning of the voice note🥺 I have so many voice notes from when my son was younger and the coos and laughs in the background of my words sends so much warmth to my soul when I listen back to them. Such a special memory as a first-time parent. Also, I love the content of this piece itself. My husband and I had a conversation the other day about how blessed our son is to have so many of the things we were never afforded growing up. Doesn't that do something to you to realize that you're building from what you didn't have?
Voice notes really are a gem. They age beautifully! Mariah, yo your last sentence. Yes. I could write about this 100 times. There’s a beauty when you get it out the mud- I love this for us and our children.
"I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it." The joy and curse as a parent. It's easy to love them when they are little. When they get older it can be harder when they yell and curse you out, but love still bubbles up and out. No matter how they feel about you, you love them, with your whole heart, in the best way you can.
Felt all of this. I recently started added that ending to these letters. I'm reminded I need to share with him and you all why. Hope you and yours are doing well.
To scream too loud in Brooklyn, you really gotta be screaming 😭. Loud is synonymous with the city. My cousins in Bushwick BK always wanted a backyard, some grass. Your son getting to grow up with a backyard is a BK dad’s dream, I’m sure. Thanks for sharing, Marc
Best ever. I loved hearing our little guy Myles, you, and the birds in the background. A sacred moment.
Marc, we have a guest room if you ever make it to Idaho, and we live so far out of town that Myles can pee in the front yard and only the dog will notice. Any screaming above 9 will simply echo off into the trees and river.
That's some Greek chorus you got there on that recording. This project has taken on a powerful but delicate momentum. Amazing what you can accomplish with an a meaningful cause, an organizing principle and and a loving, open heart. Talent doesn't hurt either.
I think that's the best recorded reading I've listened to! At least the first one that pulled me in to your world in a strong way. Still smiling! Too cute and I think he say toe after you said I still walk on my toes.
Infinitely! Although there can be a sort of forlorn poetry to honking and sirens out a window of a night. I suppose that’s far truer when you’re visiting versus living in a space.

I love that last sentence so much, my friend. That’s all we can do.
So glad I stopped on this one!

I love this comment so much. This is exactly how we heal - generational work. Thank you so much.

This is the goal, Elizabeth!

Thank you, Amy. Will be sharing more in the future !

A dream for sure brother. I feel so lucky - he’s really teaching me to dream again.
This is intimate. This is art. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for your kind words Paolo!
Myles said he got some things to say too ☺️ loved hearing his voice🥹
This voice note is *chefs kiss*
Once again got me in my feelings on a Monday
Haha, he's so talkative. Can't wait for his words to come!

Bless you and your family.
Such a generous offer, Switter. If we ever are passing through, I will for sure keep you in mind. I appreciate your kindness - always.
We dads are the few, the proud, the band of brothers!

Appreciate it, Tommy. Just trying to keep it going as long as I can.

I need to run it back- I don't think I noticed that! He copies EVERYTHING.
Beautiful bro! Hearing baby boy adlib was adorable 🥰
Thank you, brother. Maybe these letters will convince you to have another one, one day lol?
"Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby!" 🤣
What a joy to hear Myles intermingled with your words and the sounds of nature! ♥️
Thank you, Holly. It's a lot bette than hearing police sirens and honking!
