When we were raising our twins whenever they cried, my ex-wife or I would give them a bottle.

I’d have lost my mind with twins. Great respect!

It took me to the end of the poem to figure out what the heck you’re talking about 😂 Momma carry that mute milk 🤐🥛

Haha I love this! We traveled to Europe with our son when he was 16 months and wanted to crawl all over the floor of every restaurant / train station / museum, etc. Breastfeeding was the best mute button, and also the best "stay here" button!

Pure poetry ❤️ and I’m binging Friday Night Lights, because apparently high school football nostalgia is what the heart wants right now? 😂

Dia! Congrats again! Lowkey, I don't even think I saw that still. Thank you for reading!

I love this analogy! Unfortunately, we didn't get working remotes but thank god for the kinds you can buy at the store! There was so much binge-watching during long feeding sessions. My kid has seen more TV than they know 😂

haha I love how you extended the metaphor! Gradually we are giving up our stance on no screens. It's almost impossible especially since we work on them all day.

I love that your taking a hand in poetry, too. Really cool.

We all need to mute our fussiness, right?

I’m trying a new thing this week that I’m calling “stop and drop”. I’m randomly setting a timer on my phone about 2-3 times in the day. When the timer goes off, I will stop what I am doing and ask: Am I in my body right now or am I on auto pilot in my head? Chances are - it will be the latter! And so that is my cue to take 5 minutes to get grounded. To drop into my body and get out of my head.

So far, day 1 went well!

I love that Allison - we can get so caught up in the routine sometimes. I really need to take stock more of my day. It’s hard these days but necessary. I find that when I go to my therapist appointment I’m realizing for the first time in the day I’m trying to pay attention to my body.

Oh I can get stuck in my head ALL day. It’s a practice climbing (clawing??) out of that attic. Lol.

To answer question #2, I read and journal before I go to bed. In the morning, I make sure I make time for morning sun. I grab a cup of hot water or coffee, go outside, look at the sky, and just be for a moment, before I start the day off.

This is a great routine. I’m struggling to find one for myself now that Myles is in the picture. But I’ve committed to at least going outside everyday to just feel the sun as well. Grateful for you reading Yuezhong ❤️

Love the poetry bro!

Watching “We Crash” and “Shogun” with wifey.

My quiet time is around 5:30 AM at the coffee shop down the street. It’s a sweet moment of reading and writing before the day has started.

Man I wish having quiet time in the morning! Do you have kids?

I have three beautiful monsters lol. A 2, 4 and 7 year old.

The oldest is actually named Myles (although I call him by his middle name - Neptune).

Sometimes I'm too sleep deprived to make it happen, the 2 and 4 yo wake up occasionally, but I do the best I can.

Meh. We finished the first season, but won't watch any more. But don't take my word for it. Subjective recommendations are overrated.

I’ve been alternating between long and short for a while now. It helps ground me - are you doing poetry too?

Expand full comment

I have been trying to, but mostly in my personal journal. I started writing poetry again for the first time in years, so I need to get the structure and flow right before I’ll feel comfortable enough to share with anyone besides the sheets in the book

I like that 🥰. My small win was attending a PR & Storytelling workshop last Thursday. I don't think I need PR just yet but I learned a lot about organizational storytelling. I think this can be very helpful for me as an artist. My thorn - I've been feeling scatter brained and low motivation to paint and write. But I'm pushing through. Perhaps its trying to get into a new routine of tackling both. The focus is different. When I only painted that was easy and more flexible with my time. Now that I'm exploring fictional writing I'm trying to find some balance. So it looks like I need to structure my days a little better.
